Anthroposophy in Tolkien’s ‘The Lord of the Rings’: Presentation

Join Mark for a presentation on how Anthroposophy shows up in Tolkien’s mythology. Owen Barfield’s Anthroposophy-based notion of the ‘ancient semantic unity’ of language is an idea that changed Tolkien’s ‘whole outlook’ on language in the 1920’s. We will trace how this idea was used as an organizing principle for The Silmarillion, and eventually formed a symbolic template for his modern myth, The Lord of the Rings.

Myth and the Human Story Workshop

Mythologies are pictures of the progress of human physical, soul and spiritual development through cosmic, mythic and historical time. We trace the story groups used in the Waldorf curriculum back to their origins in the evolution of human consciousness. This workshop broadens the teacher’s knowledge of the origins and meaning of the stories they tell through the grades.
